Corrugated Board
Corrugated board is a structural material consisting of two layers of flat board and a corrugated board in the middle (called the corrugated layer). It is commonly used for packaging and transportation, and is widely used in various industries due to its excellent strength and durability. Corrugated board not only has good compression resistance, but is also considered an environmentally friendly and sustainable packaging solution because of its lightness, economy, and recyclability.

Overview
Paper Thickness
| Classification | Flute type | Thickness | Used For |
| Single face board | F flute | 0.9 to 1.2 mm | Ideal for lightweight packaging inserts, protecting fragile items during shipping, or as backing for display boards. |
| E flute | 1.2 to 2.0 mm | Commonly used for retail packaging, such as shoe boxes, gift boxes, and small electronics packaging due to its good printability and moderate strength. | |
| B flute | 2.4 to 3.0 mm | Suitable for general – purpose packaging of medium – weight items, like canned goods or small appliances. | |
| C flute | 3.5 to 4.0 mm | Often used for shipping cartons that need to withstand a reasonable amount of handling and protect products like clothing, toys, etc. | |
| Single wall board | F flute | 0.9 to 1.2 mm | Can be used for inner packaging layers to add cushioning in larger boxes. |
| E flute | 1.2 to 2.0 mm | Similar to single – face E flute, good for high – quality retail packaging with added strength. | |
| B flute | 2.4 to 3 mm | Ideal for packaging larger consumer goods that require more protection, like kitchenware. | |
| C flute | 3.5 to 4.2 mm | Commonly used for industrial products packaging, providing better shock absorption during transportation. | |
| Double wall board | F/E flute | 2.6 to 3 mm | Used for packaging heavy and fragile items, such as glassware or large electronic components, offering enhanced protection. |
| E/B flute | 3.6 to 4.1 mm | Suitable for shipping large and heavy items like furniture parts, providing good structural integrity. | |
| E/C flute | 5.0 to 6.5mm | Ideal for very heavy – duty packaging, such as machinery parts or large equipment components. | |
| B/C flute | 6.0 to 7.6 mm | Used for the most demanding packaging applications, like shipping large metal parts or heavy industrial goods. |
Features of corrugated paper
After understanding the basic definition and classification of corrugated paper, let’s take a closer look at its unique advantages.
Low cost:The raw materials for production are abundant, such as hornbeam, bamboo, wheat straw, reed, etc., which are widely available and relatively cheap. The production cost is only about half of that of wooden boxes of the same volume.
Light weight: Corrugated cardboard is a hollow structure, with less material, and its weight is only about half of that of wooden boxes of the same volume, which is easy to handle and transport.
High strength: The corrugated corrugations are arranged in a row and support each other to form a triangular structure, which has good mechanical strength and can withstand a certain amount of pressure from the plane.
Good buffering performance: 60%-70% of the volume of the cardboard structure is empty, with good shock absorption performance, which can avoid collision and impact of the packaged objects.
Excellent printing adaptability: It has good ink absorption ability and good printing performance. It is easy to print text, patterns, etc. on its surface, which is convenient for product promotion.
Convenient storage and transportation: It can be folded and stacked, takes up little space, and is more convenient during storage and transportation.
Environmentally friendly and recyclable: More than 80% of corrugated paper can be recycled. It is made of natural fibers and has good biodegradability, reducing the impact of packaging waste on the environment.
